The boards are here!

The comic art boards arrived over the weekend from Blue Line Pro! The first issue of the Nova Chronicles print comic is almost underway. I'll keep everyone posted on its progress in the near future.

A wish of happiness to an old friend.

When Scott and I launched the NC back in July we made an agreement to not fill this newspost with non-NC related material. However, I am deviating from said rule to wish Scott a very Happy Birthday today. Scott is a very dear friend and an extremly talented web designer who, without which, this feature would simply not exist. Have a good one, buddy!

We Are On the Way!

Just letting everyone out there know that tonight I ordered some art boards from Blue Line Pro for the Nova Chronicles Comic Book Project. Long time readers have heard me talk in the past about my intent to get the NC published as a true comic book sometime in the near future. Well, now the first step is done. In case I haven't revealed such in the past, this will not be reprints of old content. The comic books will be original material that expands on the web chapters. Can't wait to get started on this project. The first issue's story is being finalized now and I hope to have most of it written by the time the boards arrive. Keep watching the Newspost section for future developments.

Calling for feed back. (Again)

Hi. Thanks for overlooking the lateness of page 22 on Monday. I am usually a very healthy guy but got struck with all kinds of nasty flu stuff this weekend. Anyway, back in good form and back on track with the Chronicles.

Everytime I post something here about wanting your opinion, I always am pleased with the response I get, so I'm doing it again. This might be an odd one but I would like to know if anyone can comment on the pace of the story. What I mean by this is the speed as to how the story progresses along. Is it too slow? Just right? Not enough details included? When you see a new page up does it feel like after reading it that only a couple of moments have passed in the story line?
Anyone who has ever watched anime cartoons like Dragon Ball Z knows that it can sometimes take dozens of episodes before the outcome of a single battle is told. I view myself as somewhat of a perfectionist and as such tend to believe every detail in my head must be displayed on the page as well, much like a movie director has his heart ripped out by having parts of his masterpiece end up on the cutting room floor.

At any rate, if you have anything to say on this matter, please send it along to me. Thanks. See you Wednesday.

Peers and Preferences

I have wondered for a while now about the additional habits of NC readers as far as the issue of web comics. Two things in general come to mind:

1. As a Nova Chronicles reader, what, if any, other web comics and print comic books do you read on a regular basis?

2. Do you or someone you know have a webcomic of your own creation? If so, I'd love to see your work.

Drop me a line with a list of your favorites or a link to your own comic. This would be great research for me to know further what my readers like to see.

Back to the Action

Thanks for putting up with the delays this week. What with the time away for my birthday and then the scanner woes. I thought I'd never get the new page up. But it's done and posted and now time to move on to the next page. This is where the action kicks into high gear and I'm excited to get into drawing it so to make up for the lack of pages this week, the next page will be posted tomorrow instead of the average two day space between updates. See you soon and thanks again. Nova Chronicles readers are the best on the net.

Scanner: 1, Nova Chronicles: 0

I apologize to those who are wondering what happened to the next page. Ever since the NC started I've been struggling with a break-down prone scanner. Looks like it has finally reached the end of its life as it is now resorting to shutting down my computer. Thus, no scanning capabilities means no new page. However, I'm heading out after posting this to purchase a new unit. I should be back up and running by noon tomorrow (Thursday the 27th) and appreciate your patience. See you then, Thanks for waiting :).

Suffering for my Art

Welcome back. Sorry about the missing next page. It's almost done but the new inking style has opened up so many new doorways artisticly for me that it's taking a while to realize them all. Case in point is the delayed page 3-11. I hated to turn in for the evening without a completed page but would have hated worse to do a poor job. Also, don't think that this new style will have a lasting slowing effect on my hitting deadlines. It's just the beginning of something new and takes a few small steps to get adjusted. See you tonight.

Now in Technicolor!

... Well not exactly. Still black and white, but with a whole new look. The new visual style of the Nova Chronicles is a result of the new Ink format vs. the old Pencil-only method. Hope you like the change. So far response to the color and ink picture of the Vindicator and Gyro has been overwhelmingly positive so I think this will work well too. I was tempted to go with color in the comic pages as well, but in the end it just didn't seem to fit as well... At least not for now. Keep those comments coming in. Take Care.

Hi. I had a suprise to roll out this morning but I ended up needing a little more time to get it set up right. So I've pushed Monday morning's page back to later in the day. I'm really pleased with the changes going on and hope that you will be too. Please check back tonight. Thanks.

Shirts and Such

Well, Thursday's page is a bit late in posting but it's up now. I won't bother with the details but can't stress enough the importance of frequent saving when working on a computer document. But you knew that already.

Demand for T-shirts has reached a very flattering level and I am working on getting the first designs done soon.
Thanks to those who are wanting to help support the Nova Chronicles this way. The shirts will be good for both promotion and covering costs towards hosting and art supplies.

Also the advertisment that was run for the NC over on MacHall last week has run its course and I am pleased that the number of readers on our site has continued to remain at a higher rate. My thanks go out again to those who found us from over there and have come back for more. You people make it all worth while. Don't forget to drop me a line if you like. I never turn down feedback. Take Care.

New Format

Wow! It's been a long time since I put down one of these newposts. I'd like to use my first break of silence to welcome those of you joining us this week for the first time after clicking over from MacHall. Hope you like what you see and stick around for the long run.

Also, what do those of you who have been with us for a while think about the new site layout? I feel it works a lot better by making navigation tools more accessible.

Also the issue of deadlines being missed. What was once the ultimate frustration of this site seems to be a thing of the past. I finally have the time I need to live a normal life away from the drawing table but keep fresh pages coming in at a regular speed. Please take notice of the Update Status bar as, in an effort to update as often as possible, I have done away with the regular Mon.-Wed.-Fri. system. Please note that update days should be reliable but times of day might flex a bit. The Status Bar should keep you informed.

Guess that's all for now. This next week promises to be really exciting as I am looking forward to getting in-depth with the back story of Alex's crime fighting origins. Take Care.

A slight layout shift...

Hello, intrepid Nova readers. You may notice a slightly different layout around here. We've moved the Site Menu to a more logical place near the Update notice, and used the space down below for some choice links to some of our favorite webcomics (as well as a couple of resources Tyler uses in creating the NC). I think this is a better look overall.

Happy Holidays!

Today has always been a day of personal reflection and rest for me so no new page at this time. Instead I hope everyone who came to the site today will spend those couple of minutes they would have used to read the comic to instead take a moment for a little peace of mind for themselves. I'll be putting up some new art sometime this evening and we'll get back into the story on Friday. Have a good night and enjoy the rest of the season. God Bless.

And the Angel said unto them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
Luke 2:10-11

Sometimes It's Just Out of Your Hands!

The lack of a new page today was due to a major problem with my internet service provider. The system has been edgy all week but the whole thing came to an end today and shut down. Around two this afternoon I gave up hope and went out to do my Christmas shopping. At least it wasn't me this time ;).

We're back up and running now so look for the new page to post tomorrow. Take Care.

Back on Track- Thanks for Waiting

Well, the school semester is winding down and the holidays are upon us. I should now have more than enough time to get the Nova Chronicles rolling again. Thanks so much to all the faithful readers that waited so long for me to get things done.

Finals, work and life's other little Catastrophes

Updates a little off this week? Yeah, I know. Between catching up at work after Thanksgiving and finishing up the semester at school, comic drawing time might be cut a little short for a few days. I will strive to get updates completed but might be a little off with them for a short bit. Thanks to the students and starving artists out there for their collective understanding ;)

Back at Home and Back on Track

Hi. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Today was supposed to be the next page in chapter 2, but I got a little set back during the holiday weekend and am now without a finished page for Sat. So expect the Chronicles to be back on regular schedule on Monday. I'll be using the rest of the weekend to help finish up some loose ends on the site with Scott.

Also, I hope you had a chance over the holiday to check in and catch the preview pics I had posted on Wed., Thurs., and Fri. If not, you will have another chance soon. I am going to use those pics again along side the new character bios that should be showing up this week as the story progresses.

Tinkering under the hood

If anyone tried to access the site early Saturday morning (11-30) and was greeted by a cryptic error message, I am the one to blame. I've been doing some work on the underlying code that drives The Nova Chronicles, and it required some adjustments after uploading before it worked properly. So, I apologize for any inconvenience.

The changes I've made should be transparent to you readers, so if you come across something that doesn't work anymore, please let me know! The only visible difference should be a "next" link that now connects the last page of a chapter to the first page of the next one, without having to go through the Archive. Thanks to Michael for that suggestion!

I still plan to construct a special section for non-story pages (such as Tyler's character previews). Really, I do. Honest!

[Tyler] - November 19th, 2002 3:40 PM MST

What's on your mind?

Well, Chapter One is all finished. Time to move on to a new episode. Chapter two will introduce new characters, expand on those already in the mix and reveal new aspects of the overall story.

Now, with the start of the next installment, I'd like to hear from you. What did you like about the first episode? Who is your favorite character thus far? Who or what would you like to see more of? How did you first hear about the Nova Chronicles? T-shirts are being developed as are plans for a printed comic book version of the Chronicles. What are your interests in these items and do you have any ideas of what you'd like to see as far as designs? Also, anything you'd like added to the site itself? New features or perhaps some constructive criticism for making existing features even better.

You can send me your thoughts, suggestions and comments two different ways: E-mail me at or leave some feedback in the Nova Forum. I check the forum several times a week.

Well, I've got to get back to work on the next page. Hope to hear from you soon. Take Care.
