Thanks for the mail!

When I started the Nova Chronicles I strived to answer each and every piece of mail sent to me by readers for as long as possible, something I have kept up on so far. However lately my inbox is full of messages sent to me over the past several weeks that are still awaiting a reply.

If you have taken the time to e-mail me but have gotton no such correspondance in return, I will do my best to get back to you soon. Please except this humble "Thank You" for now. I really do love hearing from the fans.

Keep those letters coming.

Why Kurtz is a Pro.

I'm sure a good number of you know about Scott Kurtz's comic PVP ( I have been a regular reader for some time and have been impressed at the consistant quality of his work. He has a great philosophy concerning his creation and deserves the success he has built for himself and the strip. PVP is a prime reason why I got the Chronicles on the net in the first place.

The reason I'm bringing this up is due to the fact that I have never laughed so hard at his strip as I did this morning. He has a great timing and wit to his humor and it is a perfect gag for his Skull character. Even those who never read his stuff due to the often "inside" humor can get a kick out of this one. I remember trying this trick with a glass as a kid too. Although, fortunately, without this rather vivid end result. Thanks for the laugh, Scott.

Shirts! Calling for Feedback

I mentioned a few weeks back that with CafePress changing policies and the webcomic community running away from them in mass, that I would be looking for other options to get NC shirts made. I think I have found such an option. This new company will be able to produce some top quality shirts for the Nova Nation but there are a couple of issues that I didn't have to deal with before that have now come up.

The first one is that, unlike CafePress where I could have dozens of images, I need to focus on one or two designs for now due to start up costs.
The second issue is that I will have to pay printing costs for them in advance and out of pocket and will need to order a certain number of them at a time. The positive side to this is that the shirts are sold in bulk at reduced costs to me. Therefore I will be able to sell the shirts to you at a lower price than I ever would at CafePress. Somewhere around $15 to $18 I hope. This will allow me to pay back the printing cost and create a little extra funding to support the site and help pay the monthly costs to keep it running.

So here's how we get started: I feel the readership of the Chronicles has reached a point to support this project. Several of you have already written to me inquiring about supporting the NC thru this way and I thank you again.

What I need to do is get feedback from those interested in purchasing a shirt. Don't worry, this is not a preorder or a promise on your behalf to buy one, this is simply a show of hands of how many people I could reasonably expect to purchase one. Of course the more people I get interested, the more I'll need to order and in effect the lower cost to print them and lower price I'll be able to sell them for, so if you're interested please write.

So here's what I need. I want you to drop me a simple, brief e-mail with the subject marked "SHIRTS" saying if you're interested. Also, since I'm only able to do a few designs at first, tell me what you think a good first NC shirt design would consist of. After all, you'll be wearing them. What would you like on them? Action scene? NC logo? Character profile? If so, which Charater? Alex? Gyro? All in all, just your thoughts on what you think would make a great NC shirt.

I'm really excited about this project and hope to get it rolling along as soon as possible. I hope to hear from as many of you as possible very soon. Thanks for helping make the NC such a big success.

A Piece at a Time

As part of an effort to get the site in top shape I have started with redoing the pics for the bio pages. Jordan was the first to get the treatment with the rest to soon follow suit. After posting it, Scott remarked how it looked out of place next to the old ones, he was right. I plan on having the others redone very soon as well along with the addition of other characters that need their own fact sheets, such as Ivan. In the meantime I invite those who have not read up on the cast to do so now and keep looking for more improvments to the site. Anyone who has other suggestions for making the site more user friendly are welcome to forward those ideas to Scott or myself.

Finding the Silver Lining

Well, today was not the best day I've had in a while. After breaking a bone in my left hand during a basketball game last week (I play to win, baby), I had surgery this morning to put the hand back together again. I've actually been in a cast all week but now this really sidelines me from a good amount of summer activities. Even this message is being typed with one hand. However, the good news is a full recovery of motion is expected within a month's time.

Also, since I am right handed, I am pleased to report that this small setback will in no way effect the production of the Nova Chronicles. In fact, drawing is really the only thing I seem to be able to do uneffected right now so I plan to use this time to kick everything into high gear with the NC. This includes more frequent updates, more work on secondary art for the site such as updating the character bio page, and I would like to begin going back and inking the old pages that were done in pencil back before I switched to ink. I hope to also get some work done on the first pages of the print comic as well.

So always remember that when life gives you lemonade, it's worth two in the bush... or something like that (I guess I'm still a little out of it from all the meds). Now I've got to get back to drawing.

Digital Webbing

A change to the homepage: We now feature updates to the NC on Digital Webbing. For those not familiar with DW, it is a wonderful resource for the comic community. Due to the often random update schedule of the new pages, updates notices to the NC story line can now be found there. If you are even the most casual comic buff be sure to check out their site for more info than you 'll ever need about the comic industry.

Long time readers will also notice the removal of the NC recommended webcomics links. This change was made due to the fact that there are just too many fine artists and comics out on the web and playing favorites to a select few like this is cheating so many others out of their share of our support. The Chronicles gots nothin' but love for all its peers ;).

It's getting crowded in here.

A big Hello and welcome to all those joining us for the first time via our ad on ClanBob. Hope you like what you see here and stick around for the long haul. You can catch up in the archive and always feel free to drop me a line.
A big thanks also to the fine folks over at ClanBob for allowing the Nova Nation the chance to increase our readership numbers.

Thanks are highly in order.

A heart felt "Thank You" to all who stuck it out with me during the recent slowdown of new updates while I was getting settled into my new home. I have also been taking a summer class to get a jump on the fall semester and the comic has suffered in turn as the new pages have slowed to a trickle. I seem to be back up to full speed and will be updating more often. Also I am trying something new with the update bar where I am posting the progress of the next page vs. estimating when it will be done, hope this stays more accurate.

Also I know I have been promising Nova Chronicles T-shirts for a while now but the recent policy changes at CafePress seem to have the webcomic community running scared and the shirts are put on hold until we see what happens over there or another printing option comes available. If anyone knows of such a resource, let me know. After the ordeal with Napster a couple of years ago, several other types of programs popped up across the net and I'm hoping this chain of events will be repeated with CafePress should the whole thing get too out of hand.

New Home!

Well tomorrow I'm closing on a new home. It's an exciting time and I'll be relocating through the weekend. As such, all things that come with moving such as downed Internet connections will be in effect for a few days. So right now I don't know when the next page will be able to post, but it will be as soon as possible. I'll drop a notice in the update bar as soon as I have a connection established in the new place.

K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid!

Familiar with this acronym? I got reacquainted with it this week. The problem was I was trying to cram too much into the next few pages and not just progressing the main action. But the page is done and posted and I couldn't be more pleased as to how it turned out. Hope you like it too.

We are now at the climax of the DataTech raid. It's all a downward slide for poor Alex from here. Be sure to come back before the week's up for the evening's pivotal moment. Catch you then!

The boards are here!

The comic art boards arrived over the weekend from Blue Line Pro! The first issue of the Nova Chronicles print comic is almost underway. I'll keep everyone posted on its progress in the near future.

A wish of happiness to an old friend.

When Scott and I launched the NC back in July we made an agreement to not fill this newspost with non-NC related material. However, I am deviating from said rule to wish Scott a very Happy Birthday today. Scott is a very dear friend and an extremly talented web designer who, without which, this feature would simply not exist. Have a good one, buddy!

We Are On the Way!

Just letting everyone out there know that tonight I ordered some art boards from Blue Line Pro for the Nova Chronicles Comic Book Project. Long time readers have heard me talk in the past about my intent to get the NC published as a true comic book sometime in the near future. Well, now the first step is done. In case I haven't revealed such in the past, this will not be reprints of old content. The comic books will be original material that expands on the web chapters. Can't wait to get started on this project. The first issue's story is being finalized now and I hope to have most of it written by the time the boards arrive. Keep watching the Newspost section for future developments.

Calling for feed back. (Again)

Hi. Thanks for overlooking the lateness of page 22 on Monday. I am usually a very healthy guy but got struck with all kinds of nasty flu stuff this weekend. Anyway, back in good form and back on track with the Chronicles.

Everytime I post something here about wanting your opinion, I always am pleased with the response I get, so I'm doing it again. This might be an odd one but I would like to know if anyone can comment on the pace of the story. What I mean by this is the speed as to how the story progresses along. Is it too slow? Just right? Not enough details included? When you see a new page up does it feel like after reading it that only a couple of moments have passed in the story line?
Anyone who has ever watched anime cartoons like Dragon Ball Z knows that it can sometimes take dozens of episodes before the outcome of a single battle is told. I view myself as somewhat of a perfectionist and as such tend to believe every detail in my head must be displayed on the page as well, much like a movie director has his heart ripped out by having parts of his masterpiece end up on the cutting room floor.

At any rate, if you have anything to say on this matter, please send it along to me. Thanks. See you Wednesday.

Peers and Preferences

I have wondered for a while now about the additional habits of NC readers as far as the issue of web comics. Two things in general come to mind:

1. As a Nova Chronicles reader, what, if any, other web comics and print comic books do you read on a regular basis?

2. Do you or someone you know have a webcomic of your own creation? If so, I'd love to see your work.

Drop me a line with a list of your favorites or a link to your own comic. This would be great research for me to know further what my readers like to see.

Back to the Action

Thanks for putting up with the delays this week. What with the time away for my birthday and then the scanner woes. I thought I'd never get the new page up. But it's done and posted and now time to move on to the next page. This is where the action kicks into high gear and I'm excited to get into drawing it so to make up for the lack of pages this week, the next page will be posted tomorrow instead of the average two day space between updates. See you soon and thanks again. Nova Chronicles readers are the best on the net.

Scanner: 1, Nova Chronicles: 0

I apologize to those who are wondering what happened to the next page. Ever since the NC started I've been struggling with a break-down prone scanner. Looks like it has finally reached the end of its life as it is now resorting to shutting down my computer. Thus, no scanning capabilities means no new page. However, I'm heading out after posting this to purchase a new unit. I should be back up and running by noon tomorrow (Thursday the 27th) and appreciate your patience. See you then, Thanks for waiting :).

Suffering for my Art

Welcome back. Sorry about the missing next page. It's almost done but the new inking style has opened up so many new doorways artisticly for me that it's taking a while to realize them all. Case in point is the delayed page 3-11. I hated to turn in for the evening without a completed page but would have hated worse to do a poor job. Also, don't think that this new style will have a lasting slowing effect on my hitting deadlines. It's just the beginning of something new and takes a few small steps to get adjusted. See you tonight.

[Tyler] - February 11th, 2003 12:14 AM MST

Now in Technicolor!

... Well not exactly. Still black and white, but with a whole new look. The new visual style of the Nova Chronicles is a result of the new Ink format vs. the old Pencil-only method. Hope you like the change. So far response to the color and ink picture of the Vindicator and Gyro has been overwhelmingly positive so I think this will work well too. I was tempted to go with color in the comic pages as well, but in the end it just didn't seem to fit as well... At least not for now. Keep those comments coming in. Take Care.

Hi. I had a suprise to roll out this morning but I ended up needing a little more time to get it set up right. So I've pushed Monday morning's page back to later in the day. I'm really pleased with the changes going on and hope that you will be too. Please check back tonight. Thanks.
